I am a girl and basically I have no right,
But rest is alright..
Can’t wear clothes of my choice or even a little tight,
But rest is alright..
Can’t voice out myself even when I am right,
But rest is alright..
Not even a thought of solo trip or pleasure plight,
But rest is alright..
My dreams are not valued so can’t even write,
But rest is alright…
Being friendly is a sin, be a prey I might,
But rest is alright…
Being fearless is always a fright,
But rest is alright…
Patriarchal thought on the way, always stay out of men’s sight,
But rest is alright…
For people my being dominated is a beautiful site,
But rest is actually alright..
Ambition is not for us, for it we can’t even fight,
But rest is surely alright..
Rejection is always on our plate, reasons being character, colour, weight or height,
But rest is as usual alright…
Molested and harassed anytime, whether day or night,
But rest is always alright…
Always made responsible for the child’s behaviour not right,
Yes rest is always alright…
Taunted and tortured for voicing for right and not staying quiet,
But rest is always alright…
Get into rumours about self even if promoted for hard work upright,
But rest is always alright…
Not feeling safe wherever we are whether home or outside,
No no rest is alright…
Just sit down to think, oops thinking is not our right,
Coz for us everything is always alright..

The poem depicts the ugly irony of our society. The phrase But Rest Is Alright has the much needed under tone of sarcasm. Through these verses, reality haunts us. We must wake up to end the nightmare.
