I learnt how not all Americans celebrate Christmas. I was organically and naturally ‘inoculated’ to have cultural sensitivity and to ask before assuming about someone’s faith and beliefs. My cards now simply read – Happy Holidays.
Iftar is a special time to bond with family and friends. Small get-togethers happen over the month; sharing and caring are the highlight of these 30 days. There is laughter, there is Barkat (blessings) and there is a different kind of energy we radiate during this month.
However, religion, if given too much importance, is subject to misinterpretation and misuse. For ages, it has been successfully used to divide us and continues to do so. What has kept us together despite that, is our faith. Let’s not use religion as a tool to judge people and like all relationships, let’s keep our relationship with God personal.
