Two recently released Bengali Films have raised my hopes from this hallowed industry that used to be the forerunner in path-breaking films.

It’s indeed unfortunate, that matters of substantial social relevance like illegal sex determination and foeticide have been handled so irresponsibly. The movie had ample scope of being carved into a masterpiece, but sadly, it’s reduced to a mere caricature.

In Sheel’s case, the guilt is heightened because the daughter had a speech disability, and there seems to have been a disconnect between mother-daughter despite the mother trying hard to be protective and perceptive. We get to know this as the series progresses, and we learn that the daughter, Supriya, had confided about her relationship with the father and not her Mai.

There is no central theme and no actual problem to deal with. But Hitesh Bhatia’s and Supratik Sen’s precise writing, coupled with a highly engaging world-building technique, adds relatability to every part of the story.

First, the story is about a single father. So, while women are supposed to develop their motherly instinct once they attain a certain age and should ideally be the primary parent, a straight man not willing to marry, unable to find the right companion, and yet, wants to become a father is, I would say, exemplary.

Rittik Das has made complex terms easy with his book on Blockchain and easing out people who want to make their income via these sources.

If anyone wants to know more about these Zoonotic diseases, look no further; just pick up the masterpiece book from the dynamic storyteller, David Quammen in his 2012 book, Spillover – Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic

As I live in overseas, I hardly get a chance to capture them through my lens. Hence I use google, Pinterest, Splash etc to pick my subjects. (Full pic inside)
