Bring a little Christmas cheer to your kitchen with this easy and delightful recipe by Nigella Lawson. Perfect for holiday treats or gifting, these cookies are rich and chocolaty and topped with festive sprinkles for extra sparkle!
Difficulty Level: Easy
Prep Time: 1 hour
Servings: Makes up to 24 cookies
Ingredients
For the Cookies
- 250 grams of soft butter
- 12 tbsp powdered sugar
- 5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
For the Festive Topping
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup boiling water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Christmas sprinkles
Method
To Make the Cookies:
- In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Sift the cocoa powder into the bowl and beat until well combined.
- Add the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Beat until the dough becomes soft and sticky.
- Pinch off small amounts of dough (about the size of a large walnut), roll into balls, and gently flatten into discs.
- Place the discs on a parchment-lined baking tray, spacing them apart.
- Preheat your oven to 150°C and bake each batch for 15 minutes.
- Once baked, let the cookies cool on the tray for 15 minutes—they’ll continue to firm up as they cool.
To Make the Topping:
- In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, boiling water, and vanilla extract over low heat until smooth.
- Remove from heat and let the glaze cool for about 10 minutes.
To Decorate:
- Once the cookies are completely cool, drizzle each one with a spoonful of chocolate glaze.
- While the glaze is still warm, scatter Christmas sprinkles on top so they stick beautifully.
Pro Tip:
Don’t worry if the cookies crack or the icing dribbles a bit—that’s what makes homemade treats charming and irresistible!
Get ready to wow your loved ones with these festive delights! 🎄
