For My Love

A poignant love story!

It is again turning dark. Looks like I won’t be able to capture the magical hues of the sunset today. I wish I could have come out of the office a little earlier. I would not have missed capturing those amazing moments.

I still rush out to reach the beach road on time. But when I reach there, it starts raining. The raincoat lies forgotten in the office drawer. I have no other choice but to wait inside the nearest store till it stops raining. I am in this city for three days and for two consecutive days, I missed the opportunity to click the sunset by the sea.

At this rate, how am I ever going to participate in the ‘All India Sunset by the Sea’ photography competition?

It was Arundhati, my wife who had shared about the competition. She had convinced me to participate as I would get to learn many new techniques related to nature photography. Moreover, there was also the scope of earning the exact amount required for her treatment.

“If I was strong, I would have travelled with you all around these coastal cities and captured the best Sunsets.” She had told me before I left. I promised her that I will get her the best pictures only if she continued with the next session of chemotherapy during my absence. I love her immensely and I am prepared to do anything for her sake.

Driti, my daughter, assured me. “Baba…. don’t worry. I will be taking care of Ma in your absence. You have to keep your promise.”

That very night Driti called me. “Ma is suffering from immense pain after the chemotherapy today. I don’t think we have much time. Can you come home as soon as possible?”

So far, I have been able to collect nine images of the Sunset. The best one is waiting to be taken at the R.K Beach.

But time is running out my love! I will click it only with you, my dearest Arundhati! I am sure I will be abck here with you!

“This capture is very precious to me. Titled, ‘The Last Sunset’, it was captured by my father Atin Ganguly, when Ma was still there with us. He went back with Ma, who was battling the last stage of Cervical Cancer to Visakhapatnam. Holding Ma in his arms, he captured this shot on R. K Beach. A few minutes later, Ma breathed her last in his arms.

A couple of months later, Baba developed Alzheimer’s. He forgot everything about the photography exhibition. I collected the photographs and framed them for this exhibition.”

I can hear Driti saying this to the visitors at the Exhibition Hall. She thinks I have forgotten. But how can I ever forget!

“I met you amidst those hours of golden sunset

Your Shravan cloud eyes, made my heart leap

Forgetting all the tempest that lay ahead in a score

Beloved, be mine! For my love, I will wait at the shore

Let’s sail together to create a symphony at sunset hour

The aroma of our lyrical melody filled with love will waft in the air.”
